Fire Prevention Week – Day 5: Empowering Students with Life-Saving Knowledge
As part of Fire Prevention Week, the Lapel Stony Creek Township Fire Territory visited Lapel Elementary School to educate students on essential fire safety practices. On Day 5, firefighters engaged with students through interactive presentations, safety demonstrations, and hands-on learning stations. The goal was to empower students with knowledge that can save lives both at school and at home.
The topics covered included:
* Stop, Drop, and Roll: teaching students the proper technique to extinguish clothing fires
* Safe exit strategies: showing students how to safely exit a burning building
* The importance of smoke detectors: highlighting the crucial role smoke detectors play in early fire detection
* Calling 911 and knowing your address: teaching students the importance of knowing their address and how to call for help in case of an emergency
* Firefighter gear demonstration: allowing students to get up close and personal with firefighter gear to reduce fear and build trust
By educating students on these critical topics, the Lapel Stony Creek Township Fire Territory aims to build strong connections between first responders and the communities they serve. Events like this help empower students with the knowledge and skills necessary to stay safe in the event of a fire.
