According to court documents, police officers were called to an Anderson home on Nov. 24, 2022, after a man returned home to find his 1-year-old child alone in the living room and the mother of the child unresponsive in bed. The mother, later identified as Mariah Phillips, was rushed to a hospital but ultimately was declared dead.

An autopsy revealed Phillips’ cause of death as “multiple drug intoxication,” which included fentanyl found in her system.

Court documents show messages between Phillips and Teague that were sent just hours before her death. Other messages sent by Phillips included her talking about visiting Teague to see what types of “dope” he had.

When police arrived at Teague’s home on Dewey Street on April 7, investigators reported Teague answering the door with a plastic baggie in hand. Detectives noted the baggie was “associated with the packaging and distribution of narcotics.”

Teague had $1,200 in cash on his person at the time of his arrest. Inside his home were numerous digital scales, glass pipes, plastic baggies, firearms and ammunition.

Teague denied selling Phillips the drugs that caused her overdose but admitted to knowing the woman.
