According to court documents, 32-year-old Daqawn Peoples was arrested and preliminarily charged with Dealing in a Controlled Substance Resulting in Death, a Level 1 Felony. Additionally, he faces charges of Dealing in a Narcotic Drug, Level 2 Felony, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, Level 4 Felony.

The investigation was launched on January 23, 2025, following a search warrant executed by the Anderson Police Department at a residence in the 1600 block of W. 20th Street. During the search, officers seized approximately 1.5 kilograms of a “brown substance” stored in vacuum-sealed baggies, which later tested positive for fentanyl.

Detectives also discovered a 45-caliber Glock handgun and a loaded drum magazine. Peoples was reportedly standing on the front porch of the residence when officers arrived, before retreating inside and being apprehended at a different residence in the 1600 block of W. 21st Street.

According to court documents, Peoples allegedly admitted to possessing the handgun and “dog food,” a reference to the suspected fentanyl and heroin. He also allegedly confessed to selling “dope” to others, court documents said.

Peoples is currently being held at the Madison County Jail, where he is scheduled to appear in Madison Circuit Court 4 on April 15 for a status hearing.
