On September 19, 2025, the LSCTFT, with automatic aid from South Madison Fire Territory, responded to a reported barn fire in the area of SR 13 and 100 S, following a dispatch from Madison County Central Dispatch. Upon arrival, units found a barn with visible smoke and fire, prompting the incident to be marked as “working”. Additional units from the Wayne Twp Vol. Fire Dept in Hamilton County were subsequently dispatched to the scene.

Due to the location’s proximity to the county line and the receipt of multiple calls, Hamilton County Dispatch also dispatched units from the Noblesville Fire Department and White River Township Fire Department. Crews from these departments quickly arrived and launched an aggressive attack on the fire to prevent it from spreading to a nearby residence and farm field.

Fortunately, the fire is now under control, and an investigation is currently underway to determine its cause. Thankfully, no civilian or firefighter injuries were reported during the incident.

A total of 11 additional units responded to the scene, including the Vernon Township Fire Department, Fishers Fire Department, Edgewood Fire Department, Duke Energy, CenterPoint, Town of Lapel, Elwood Firefighters Local 1671, Pipe Creek Fire Department, and the Lapel Police Department, IN, as well as the Madison County Emergency Management & Homeland Security Agency.

Thank You for Celebrating 100 Years with Us!

The Lapel Volunteer Fire Department, also known as the Lapel Stony Creek Twp. Fire Department and Lapel Stony Creek Twp. Fire Territory, has been serving the community since 1925. Yesterday’s Public Safety Day and 100-Year Celebration was an unforgettable event, and we’re grateful to our incredible community, friends, families, and neighboring agencies for their support.

The Indiana Volunteer Firefighter’s Association (IVFA) proudly presented a certificate of service to the Lapel Stony Creek Twp. Fire Territory, recognizing 100 years of dedicated service to the community.

“For a century, our firefighters, EMTs, and volunteers have selflessly answered every call, from the middle of the night to the heat of the day, with one goal in mind: to protect this town, township, and every individual within our reach,” said Fire Chief Jason Renner. “They didn’t do it for recognition or praise, but because it was the right thing to do. To every past and present member, we extend our sincerest gratitude for your time, sweat, sacrifice, and love for this community. Whether you served for one year or thirty, you’ve helped build something truly special.”

Happy First Day of Fall from Lapel Stony Creek Twp. Fire Territory. As the temperatures drop and the leaves start to fall, it’s the perfect time to cozy up by the fire, but also a great opportunity to check in on fire safety at home.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable season, consider the following Fall Fire Safety Tips:
✅ Check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors monthly, and replace batteries as needed to guarantee they’re functioning properly.
✅ Exercise caution when using space heaters – keep them at least 3 feet away from anything flammable to prevent accidents.
✅ Have your chimney inspected to prevent dangerous creosote buildup, which can lead to chimney fires.
✅ Practice safe candle use by never leaving burning candles unattended and keeping them out of reach of children and pets.
✅ Clear leaves and debris from gutters, porches, and around outdoor fire pits to minimize fire risks.
✅ Practice your fire escape plan with all household members to ensure everyone knows what to do in case of an emergency.

By following these simple tips, we can all enjoy a safe and beautiful Fall together.

We’re excited to announce that we’ve borrowed an antique fire truck from the Daleville-Salem Township Fire Protection Territory for our Public Safety Day event tomorrow. This historic truck has a special connection to our department, having originally served us before being sold to the Daleville-Salem Township Fire Protection Territory.

A huge thank you to @paddockwreckerservice for generously towing the truck to our station at no charge – we appreciate your support.
