Lapel Fire Chief Tom Marvel Retires After 16 Years of Dedicated Service

The Lapel Stony Creek Township Fire Territory announces the retirement of Fire Chief Tom Marvel, a dedicated public servant with a career marked by unwavering commitment, leadership, and service to the community. Chief Marvel’s journey with the department began in March 2009 as a volunteer, and he quickly rose through the ranks after becoming a certified firefighter and EMT in July of the same year.

His exceptional leadership qualities and dedication earned him a promotion to fire lieutenant in 2012, followed by key leadership roles as fire captain, training officer, and assistant fire chief. In 2022, Chief Marvel made history as the first fire chief officially appointed by the Fire Board, a testament to the respect and trust he had earned within the department and the community.

Throughout his tenure, Chief Marvel oversaw significant advancements within the department, focusing on training, operational excellence, and community engagement. In his own words, Chief Marvel expressed his gratitude to the community and department: “I want to thank the political leadership and external stakeholders of Lapel and Stony Creek Township. After over 16 years of service, I’ll be stepping away on June 24th as your Fire Chief. It’s been an honor to serve this community and work alongside the great men and women of this department. This department and community have made me into the person I am today. Thank you for the trust, support, and opportunity to lead this organization – it’s been a dream come true.”
